Adventures in DC

Exploring Washington, DC & Making Every Day an Adventure

About Me

Hi there! My name is Lissa, and I’m so glad you’re here. When I moved to Washington, DC in 2011, I expected to stay for a few years and then move on like the transient population that is common in this area. Instead, as I explored, discovered new things to do, and got to know more about this community, I fell in love with my city. The DC I love is full of creative and passionate people who often have little to no interaction with the political DC that is often portrayed in the news or movies. I’m the annoying person at the bar insisting that those who find DC to be a soulless bureaucracy where everyone has an agenda should go on more adventures around the city and maybe they would fall in love too.

About the Blog

Art, history, nature, architecture, science, and more – adventures on the blog span a wide range of topics because I find almost everything interesting. I love to explore my city, try new things, and encourage locals and visitors alike to take full advantage of all the awesome things there are to do in DC. Most of my adventures are free or low-cost, because (a) that’s what fits in my budget, and (b) I haven’t run out of free or low-cost adventures yet. You will find both well-known and off the beaten path adventures on the blog. I love playing tourist in my city and finding new reasons and ways to love the popular attractions. Most of my adventures are within Washington, DC itself, with occasional treks into the surrounding metro area, and less frequent day-trips further from the city. I’ve been car-free the entire time I’ve lived in DC and do the vast majority of my adventuring via metro, bus, bike, or foot. I often find it easier to just walk than transfer metro lines or wait for a bus. Most adventures will be accessible by public transportation and/or walking several miles.

DC is one of her favorite places to spend time, and she hopes others can benefit from her experiences exploring the District.
